1. Concepts> In 100 words, tell us how the video additions changed/added meaning or layers to your audio remix? Did you simply “describe” the audio with video or do you feel that your video choices added depth? My audio is pretty chill to begin with so I started my video out with some psychedelic type visuals to set the mood. Then, I wanted it to get chaotic and finally get inspirational at the end. My message is basically to find what makes you have hope or be happy amongst all of the chaos of the world like the current events and also something as simple as just comparing yourself to others through social media. My video is trying to tell people to stop overthinking and analyzing and just live life. I think my video additions added meaning to my audio because I used some pretty abstract visuals instead of just describing the audio with narrative scenes.
Video/After Effects Form:
2. How did you construct/compose/structure all the parts of your video? In other words, how did you synch you video to your audio? What was the over all “vibe” you were going for? Like I said before, I was going for a psychedelic, hippy vibe. I structured the parts of my video into 3 sections: mellow beginning, chaos middle, and an inspirational, encouraging end. I synced my audio with my video by making certain clips jump to another clip right at the drop of a beat or on a loud part of the song. I also used zoom transitions to go along with the audio smoothly.
3. Following up on the above, what EDITING PACE/TIMING/STRATEGIES did you apply when considering the over all “vibe” of your audio remix? My clips were more drawn out at the beginning, but got more choppy during the chaotic parts to fit that vibe.
4. Briefly, where and how (and to what effect conceptually or formally) did you apply COLOR CORRECTIONS? How did you manipulate or change video clips or pictures? Choose 2-3 clips or generally where you used theses to discuss. I applied color corrections a lot in this project and went a little crazy. I pretty much applied a color correction to every clip. For the jellyfish, I would move the shadows to a certain color and the highlights to a complementary color to create a cool visual. For the red ocean, I didn't want the ocean to just have a tint, I wanted the foam to still be white. For this, I just used the eye dropper tool to change the blue colors to red colors. I used the eye dropper again to change the color of the flame of the candle to purple and blue.
5. Briefly, where (and why, to what “effect”?) did you apply After Effects EFFECTS & PRESETSand filters? Or> If you used mostly “raw” (i.e. unchanged or modified) video or pictures, give us a good reason why you did not “manipulate” with the video clips? I used a scribble animation preset on my text to add a different effect. I used some distortion on the clocks to look ripply. I used a rotation movement effect on the winter forest scene to transition into the ocean in a cool way. I also used a zoom keyframe preset for the zoom transitions I did.
Critical Thoughts: 6. Briefly discuss the successful elements of your work (both in form and content). What parts are working well? (You can base these thoughts on the feedback received at the critique) Based on the critique, my successful elements were my color corrections, the timing with the music, and my footage that is merely visual. I also got a lot of great feedback on the animated text.
7. Briefly discuss the elements that could be better in your work. List the things you need to improve/fix/change/work on to improve the work? (You can base these thoughts on the feedback received at the critique) Based on the critique, I need to add more abstract at the end and take out the part where Stephen Hawking is spinning in the air.
