Lighting Exercise
This photo shows the profile of an older man sitting in a chair. There is not much contrast on the man's face, but there is contrast between the man and the background, making him stand out against the white wall. His white hair on the top of his head starts to blend into the wall because he is lit from above, making that area of man lighter. I think the lack of contrast overall makes the photo more calming and less intense and dramatic. The pairing of a frail man with the faded look of the photo makes the photo seem delicate and light. The image is almost flattened since he is showing his profile and is sitting so close to the wall, with hardly any contrast.
Similarly, this man has the same texture on his face. This picture shows an older man with a motorcycle helmet on. He looks very lively and colorful with boosted saturation and contrast. The light looks like a small specular light source. The light source is hitting his helmet right in the center, creating a harsh highlight. The shadows are very sharp and defined on the wall behind him. All of this contrast gives the subject more life and makes the photo more dramatic than the last.
This photo shows a father and daughter somewhere in the Middle East. The lighting and coloring makes this photo seem very cold and dark. In all of the ruin and chaos, they are trying to hold onto each other.
This photo has the same distressed looks of the subjects, but is very bright and colorful. The lighting isn't as dramatic. It looks very warm outside and more hopeful and happy than the previous photo. Both photos are composed similarly with the family at the same distance almost from the family and the camera.
This photo is taken at dusk and the lighting looks more homey. The angle being behind the house makes the photo seem more creepy and stalker-ish.
This photo looks more intentional and seems like it got the home owner involved in the making of the photograph. It is taken further away then the other photo. The lighting on this is the same as the previous photo in that it was taken at dusk and the house lights are on. The only difference in lighting is that there is also fire light, which makes it seem more dangerous.
